In February 2026, a team of twelve extraordinary women will embark on a groundbreaking journey that stretches far beyond physical endurance. Together, they will run a gruelling 2141km relay from the northernmost point of South Africa, the Beitbridge border post just outside Musina, to the southern tip at Cape Agulhas. They are aiming to complete the challenge in just nine days. This mission, known as Cape2Care, is not only aiming to establish a World Record— it is a beacon of hope for countless children across the country.

Behind the statistics and headlines of childhood trauma, instability, and lack of access to care, there are real children living in crisis. I chatted to Danielle Lubbe, one of the relay runners, who explained why she signed up, “Dynamic Women for Children is doing amazing work, helping kids not only during difficult times but also during the gradual, frequently invisible process of recovery and growth.” The relay is a powerful call to action: to recognize the resilience forced upon children by circumstance and to rally support so that resilience isn’t a requirement for survival.
For Danielle, running is deeply personal. “I talk a lot about how running has changed my life. It’s what carried me through some of the hardest seasons of my life, and now I get to use the thing that saved me, to help children who need saving too.” After discovering ultra trail running in 2024 and completing her first 100km ultra in December 2025, Danielle realized the transformative power of perseverance — something she now hopes to pass on to children who haven’t had the chance to choose their circumstances.

Dynamic Women for Children (DWFC), the charity at the heart of Cape2Care, supports kids who have been failed by their environments — children from unsafe or abusive homes, those experiencing extreme poverty, neglect, food insecurity or traumatic family situations. The organization’s work centres on providing safety, stability and opportunity. Through initiatives such as safe housing, access to food, therapy, education and long-term developmental support, DWFC aims to help children not just survive, but thrive.
The Cape2Care relay is a testament to what can be achieved when purpose outweighs pain. Danielle notes, “Ultra running has taught me that while pain passes, purpose endures. Purpose is what keeps you going when your body wants to stop.” For the twelve women running, the challenge is simply a means to an end; the real focus is the children whose futures rest on the support and awareness this event will generate.
“We hope that awareness will lead to action, which will lead to long-lasting change,” Danielle says. She urges everyone to get involved, whether through donations, sharing the story or offering sponsorship and support. Every contribution helps provide vulnerable children with genuine, ongoing assistance. “The most direct and effective way for people to change the world is through donations. Every donation supports initiatives that give vulnerable children genuine, continuous support,” she explains.
Beyond financial contributions, sharing the story and offering messages of encouragement can help build momentum and attract more supporters. “While I may be one of the women running, the difference made beyond the finish line is built through community, collaboration and shared belief in the cause,” Danielle affirms.
There is currently no record of a “fastest known time” to run from the northern to the southernmost tip of South Africa so the Cape2Care dozen are aiming to establish a benchmark by completing the 2141km in 11 days.
However, Cape2Care is about more than breaking records — it’s about breaking cycles of neglect, trauma, and lost potential. As Danielle passionately puts it, “Let’s raise children who won’t have to recover from their childhoods.” Join the journey. Your support can help ensure every child in South Africa has the safety, stability and opportunity they deserve.
