I had several reports of sightings of Good Hope FM DJ and former Stormers centre on the Two Oceans half marathon route but he was mysteriously missing from the results. Thanks to some sleuthing from readers we have the big Scooby Doo Doo reveal…
Morgan “Ram” Newman now identifies as Morgan “Ewe” Newoman (there is currently some debate as to whether “Ewe” is short for “Ewenice” or “Ewenick”). Newoman, running in the female bib of Lindsay Jacobs, was however still not fully comfortable with his public transition and ‘van der Walted’ his bib with a cut and pasted “Morgan” over the real bib owner’s name. He carefully ensured the font type, size and colour were within spec of the original bib. It’s nice to know that private school jocks are also proficient in the arts and crafts.

As a rugby player with the Stormers, he proudly wore the number 12 on his jersey and still uses the same figure on his social media profiles: “Morgan12Newman”. However, he is less fussy when it comes to race numbers and, with hands quicker than Kwagga Smith in the loose maul, will grab hold of any number he can get his hands on.
A quick search of his social media revealed multiple instances of bib banditting like running the 2024 Two Oceans half in 90263, which was assigned to a German female Sarah Baier, and the 2023 Gun Run in number 1130, as Alex Clark.
Even rarer than finding a picture of Ritchie McCaw entering through the gate is finding one of Morgan Newman running in his own race number. However, after hours and hours of diligently scouring the inner recesses of the internet, I was finally able to uncover the photo below at the 2023 Two Oceans half marathon where he’s running legally.
This year, placing as 1866th female with a 2:16:12 finish, Newoman was not able to threaten the Top 10 ladies. However, he did find his way back to the Must Love Hills cheer zone to grab a beer and congratulate his old school mate Luke Jacobs on his seventh placed finish.

Without question Newoman was elated that another alumni, Nic Bradfield, had secured the final female gold. With two Top 10 finishes at the largest half marathon in South Africa, there is no doubt that at the next Old Boys Dinner this formerly competitive rugby school will celebrate the 2026 Two Oceans as the school’s best sporting performance since Covid.
I will not be causing further controversy by revealing the name of the private school that all three of these braless brahs very coincidently attended. However, if you do bump into one of them, it is highly likely that they will tell you which school they went to within the first few minutes of conversation.
All Talk on Good Hope but Silent on Bad Behaviour
Whilst you can hear Newoman’s confident and gregarious voice on the radio, he is more reticent when it comes to answering questions about his lifestyle choices. The following set of questions were sent two days ago both to his email address and active Instagram account. They remain unanswered.

Morgan was suspiciously off air today, Wed 22nd, perhaps taking time to reflect and word his response to those questions. Or, he might have been summoned to his employer’s boardroom to answer to similar questions of how he potentially brought his ER reputation in to disrepute. Mind you, he only recently returned to the airwaves and may be off air again soon if his ER deems this behaviour unacceptable. Who knows how rife this practice really is & how frequent this bib bandate saga runs….

Isn’t that school meant to impart Christian values?
Maybe the problem is run crews. They are not formal clubs and don’t belong to WPA or ASA.
Perhaps they should become registered clubs or be gone.
They are ruining the sport for everyone with their cheating and lack of running etiquette and foster an ethos that is counter to the running community.
I think that is maybe a broad generalisation, and is not fair to the many run crews/ clubs around.

They are not informing unlicensed runners of the WPA and ASA rules re Road running. This story has gone global.
There is a reason we have a strong culture of club running in SA.
This is an embarrassment to all SA runners especially those who obey the rules.
He played a handful of games for the Stormers so who cares? Was lucky to have been on the bench a couple of times.
Gabi. Not a problem with regulating run crews, this is 2026 they are going to exist and they’ll use social media to get people off the couch and into the vibe of running – which is clearly good for the sport.
BUT, the people running them need to take responsibility for their actions and influences. Can’t be there for the good times with free merch and brand collabs but when someone does something wrong in your name you stand back and say that it’s just a whatsapp group.
Not entirely related here but there’s a certain group pulling big numbers of people that do training runs on Victoria rd (atlantic seabord) – this is awesome by concept. Who manages the tight squeeze between cars/cyclists/running bunch going fwd, or do we wait for a big incident?
Ban everyone involve for life from the Two Oceans race, and that includes Lindsey Jacobs. To change the name on the number that’s fraud and need to be punished seriously.

Hi Stuart, about 17 years ago I had entered my 12th 56km TOM run, picked up an injury but was sufficiently recovered to tackle a 21km. At the Expo I was able to pay a substitution fee and downgrade to my first of ten 21km runs. Perhaps you need to look at instituting a similar process for the future.

This entire situation is a massive embarrassment to the Cape Town running community. As a runner myself, someone who values the grit and integrity that the sport requires, seeing a public figure like Morgan Newman engage in blatant bib fraud is infuriating. He is exactly the kind of person who believes his “status” and proximity to power make him untouchable, but in the running world, your character is revealed by your actions, not your follower count.
It is common knowledge among those of us who move in these circles—and it has been discussed extensively by staff outside the station walls—that there is a glaring double standard at Good Hope FM. If any other presenter had committed a fraudulent offense of this nature, they would have been pulled off the air immediately. Why is he being protected? The public and the loyal GHFM listeners deserve better than a presenter who lacks basic ethics.
Having met him a few times, the “nice guy” act is a thin veneer for a man who is incredibly arrogant and, frankly, mediocre at his job. He shouldn’t just be “investigated”; he should be removed from the air until he makes a public apology and actual amends to the running community he’s disrespected. The community needs to keep the pressure on—don’t let this slide just because he’s a “name.” Post on Good Hope FM’s socials, on his socials…demand answers!
If you’re going to cheat to get the medal, at least have the talent to back up the ego. Right now, both are looking pretty mid.
